Making A Difference -- PTO Service Projects

New Family Fellowship, Welcome, and Orientation

Enrolling at a new school can be challenging for children and parents.  The PTO sponsors and coordinates a special welcome and fellowship for all new families to Wesleyan prior to the beginning of each school year.  The New Family Night is held prior to the Open Houses.

Open Houses

The Open Houses are held prior to the first day of school. The Open Houses are specifically for WCA students and their parents (including returning families and new families).  Three separate Open Houses are held:  elementary, middle school, and high school.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week

The PTO sponsors Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week each year and coordinates all activities related to this special week.  Parents and students are invited to participate by sending notes of appreciation to teachers and staff and contributing baked goods for a staff continental breakfast held on Tuesday morning of Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week.

Child Care Enhancements

The PTO provides financial support for the purchase of various child care items, including classroom furniture, toys, books, playground equipment, etc.  This support is based upon the involvement of the child care staff and parents in the annual Fun Festival.  Some of the funds from the Fun Festival are shared with the child care program.

Student Service Challenge Scholarship

The PTO provides funds in support of a college scholarship which is presented to a WCA senior each spring for outstanding service to the community.  The student selected must have contributed at least 100 hours of service within the past 12 months.

Academic Awards

Academic Awards Assemblies are conducted each spring in the elementary, middle, and high school divisions.  During the assemblies, a variety of awards are presented.  The PTO provides funds for the cost of trophies, plaques, and certificates.

Prayer Partners

Prayer is a vital component of the Christian family.  Prayer builds relations and strengthens God’s kingdom.  The PTO sponsors the Wesleyan Prayer Partners Program, where families “adopt” a staff member and systematically pray for the staff member during the entire school year.

Special Projects

The PTO has provided special support to various programs and projects sponsored within the academy, such as Art Impact Day,  Mission Fair,  Wellness Committee Fairs, and Spiritual Emphasis Week.  In addition, the PTO has contributed to the purchase of special equipment, such as sound equipment for the dining hall and middle school gym, and security cameras.  These projects are determined by the PTO based upon requests and available funding.

 Volunteering for Fund-raising Projects

PTO Yard Sale (September 6, 2014 – 5:30 a.m. until noon)

The WCA PTO sponsors an annual yard sale which is both a service project for the community and a fund-raising project for the school.  Parents rent 1 or 2 parking spaces in the Eastchester parking lot to sell their items.  Parents keep all sales proceeds.  The PTO makes its funding from the rental of spaces.  Volunteers are needed to assist with traffic flow, donate concession items, and assist with concession sales.

PTO Fun Festival (May 1, 2014 – 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.)

The Fun Festival has been a tradition at WCA for over 35 years and is the largest PTO fund raiser.  The activities are primarily designed for preschool and elementary children.  Service opportunities are available for middle school and high school students as helpers in the classroom activities.  Volunteers are needed to assist with ticket sales at entrances, with gym and outdoor activities, with serving hot dogs and pizza, and dining hall cleanup following the event.

PTO Bake Sale (May 2, 2014 – 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.)

The PTO Bake Sale takes place in conjunction with the Fun Festival.  Parents and students donate baked goods which are sold through the school day. Volunteers are needed to assist with setup, sales, and cleanup.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY...

BY PRAYING WITHOUT CEASING FOR THE WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
ADMINISTRATION, TEACHERS, STAFF, STUDENTS, AND PARENTS

Father, we ask for a powerful and deep work of the Holy Spirit among the administration, teachers, staff, students, and parents of Wesleyan Christian Academy.  We plead that the Holy Spirit will do a powerful and gracious work in our hearts. Holy Spirit, release Your power in this school and meet the particular spiritual needs of the administration, teachers, staff, students, and parents of Wesleyan Christian Academy.  May You be glorified!  Amen!
