  • You are cordially invited to a reception for Brenda Reeves (K-2 teacher) on Sunday, May 17 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Farlow Kennedy Center.  We will be celebrating Mrs. Reeves 44 years of service to Wesleyan Christian Academy. As Wesleyan's most tenured teacher, we just couldn't let her get away without a time to celebrate God's goodness.  We will have a basket for remembrances from former students through the years.  Please click here for further details.

  • The Wesleyan STEM lab is looking for old smart phones.  These phones are going to be used for some basic virtual reality exploration.  We need phones with good viewing screens on which we can download the apps.  They do not have to be fancy, just functioning.  Larger screens are preferred, but all are welcome (please remember the charger if you have it). Phones can be delivered to the academy office.

   Congratulations to the Varsity Wrestling Team who finished 4th as a team in this past weekend's state tourna-ment.  Congratulations also goes to Sam Pruett and Ryan Petty who were state champions in their weight category along with seven other WCA wrestlers who placed.  Sam and Ryan will be at Prep Nationals this weekend in Pennsylvania. Great work Trojans!

   The Enrichment Center is collecting items for the La Luz de Cristo (The Light of Christ) mission organization in Nicaragua.  Our Enrichment Center Director, Becky Owens, has visited this wonderful ministry on a short-term missions trip.   The ministry is now in need of children's vitamins, travel size toothpaste and toothbrushes.  The Enrichment Center's goal is to collect 100 items by the 100th day of school, which is tomorrow January 27.  If you would like to donate any items, you can take them to the Enrichment Center and place them in a designated box outside of Mrs. Owens' office.

   Think Pink t-shirts will be sold at school throughout the week of this event during lunch.  Cost is $10.   

BOX TOPS UPDATE:

   Continue to collect and trim your Box Tops while checking expiration dates (if expired before February 28, 2015, please discard).

   Turn these into your homeroom teacher no later than Friday, February 13 for the second submission and due date of the current school year.

   On Saturday, December 13, WCA Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys basketball teams will play High Point Christian Academy (HPCA) at High Point University (HPU).  We will begin the presale of our alloted tickets on Thursday, December 11, to Wesleyan families and Trojan Club members.  Tickets to the general public will be sold on Friday, December 12.  Tickets can be purchased in the academy office for $5 each.  No tickets will be sold at the door at Saturday's game.

The topic for the evening will be Sex, College, Beer, Technology and Jesus - What Students Think About and Tools for Effective Family Discipleship. This will be a very informative event, which will equip you as a parent with information and tools that you need to better understand your children and educate them to think wisely about the culture that is influencing them daily.  This is primarily an evening for parents; however, you are welcome to bring your children.

  • Mark your calendars for November 17 for a very important parent meeting presented by the AXIS group, which will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The topic for the evening will be Sex, College, Beer, Technology and Jesus - What Students Think About and Tools for Effective Family Discipleship. This will be a very informative event, which will equip you as a parent with information and tools that you need to better understand your children and educate them to think wisely about the culture that is influencing them daily.  This is primarily an evening for parents; however, if you would like to, you are welcome to bring your children.

  • Each year, Wesleyan is required by the state of North Carolina to send parents a letter concerning influenza, meningitis, etc.  Please click here to read this letter.

  • Help us fill the library at Parkview Village Elementary in High Point.  You can purchase a book(s) at Wesleyan's Elementary School Book Fair held this week in our library, or give a donation of any amount to go toward this project (there will be a box for donations at the book fair).  Wesleyan High School students visit Parkview each week to help with their Reading Buddies program.

  • Thanks to everyone who gave blood at last week's Wesleyan Red Cross Blood Drive.  We had 91 people present to donate and 75 productive units were collected!  Our goal, set by the Red Cross, was 78 units, so we were very close.  Thank you for your help with this wonderful endeavor.  Our next blood drive will be February 18.

  • Box Top Update:  Due to everyone's hard work, the Box Top program has earned the school $1,470 just this fall.  WOW...Thank You to EVERYONE who participated in clipping, collecting, trimming, and counting 14,697 Box Tops and Bonus Coupons.  The top class contributors were - Elementary, Mrs. Burchette (1st grade) & Mrs. Schram (2nd grade); Middle School, Mrs. Craft (8th grade), Mrs. Midkiff (5th grade); High School, Mrs. Alexander and Mr. Hoots.  The final date for the next collection will be February 13, 2015.  The class in each age level with the most Box Tops will win an ice cream party and the homeroom teacher will receive a gift card to Barnes and Noble.  We will continue to collect Box Tops through May, 2015.  If you have questions, please contact Susan Kelley at SKelley@WesleyMemorial.org or call 259-8889.

  • State Tournament Schedule for Varsity Girls' Volleyball:  Friday, October 24, the team will play either Wake Christian or Charlotte Christian at 12 p.m. at Wesleyan.  If the girls win this game, they will play in the semi-finals at 4 p.m. at Wesleyan.  The 3A championship game will be played on Saturday, October 25 at 4 p.m. at Wesleyan.

Trojan Club

  • Congratulations to Nathan Scott (6th grade) for receiving second place in the ACSI District Spelling Bee.  Seven Middle Schools were represented with a total of 89 spellers, and Nathan placed second among all of them!  He will be going to the regional competition in Atlanta on March 22.

  • The High School all-girls show choir, Faith, will be performing on the FOX8 morning news this Thursday, March 6 during the 7:30 and 8:30 news hours. The choir will be competing at the William Peace University North Carolina Show Choir Competition on March 7.  Be sure to watch the choir!

  • Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Basketball team for winning the 2014 NCISAA 3A Boys Basketball State Championship on Saturday!

  • Congratulations to Bradley Davis (12th grade) and Sam Pruett (11th grade) for winning their second state championship at the NCISAA State Wrestling Tournament that was held at Wesleyan on February 14 and 15.  Ryan Petty (11th grade) finished second place, Storm Glautier (12th grade) third, and Chase Holyfield (11th grade) fourth.  The team finished third in the tournament.  

  • Thursday-Saturday, February 27-28 and March 1, the Fine Arts Department will present this year's musical, Seussical.   • Imago Dei Soccer Academy - This academy will provide individual soccer technique & agility training for competitive soccer players and goalkeepers. The purpose of Imago Dei is to encourage participants, "made in the Image of God", to utilize their gifts, talents, and abilities - specifically in the game of soccer - to glorify God.  Training sessions are held on Mon-days from 3-4 p.m. (grades 1-4), 4-5 p.m. (grades 5-8), and 5-6 p.m. (grades 9-12) on the soccer field at WCA.   • During the month of January through February 3, the Enrichment Center has the opportunity to help one of their 5th grade students and her family prepare to spend a week working with La Luz de Cristo Ministries in Nica- ragua.  The Enrichment Center is collecting various items to help this min-istry.  If you would like to contribute to this project, you can take your items  to the Enrichment Center  and place them  in the box located  in the hallway outside of Becky Owens' office.  To see a list of items needed, please click here.

  • Imago Dei Soccer Academy - This academy will provide individual soccer technique & agility training for competitive soccer players and goalkeepers.  The purpose of Imago Dei is to encourage participants, who are "made in the Image of God" to utilize their gifts, talents, and abilities - specifically in the game of soccer - to glorify God.  Training sessions are held on Mondays from 3-4 p.m. (grades 1-4), 4-5 p.m. (grades 5-8), and 5-6 p.m. (grades 9-12) on the soccer field at WCA.   • Re-Enrollment Update: Thank you, thank you to everyone who has completed their child's online Re-Enrollment!  We  hope you have found the process simple and straightforward.  We have been excited to offer the online payment  option by credit or debit card, and this has been well received.  If you choose NOT to use this option, please  complete the online form until you reach the "Payment Page", save your form and then log out.  You can pick up the  final Confirmation Page in the front office when you come by to drop off  your cash/check payment.  It is important that we receive the  Confirmation Page with your re-enrollment as this is he physical, signed  document that goes into your child's folder.  Remember, your re-enrollment is  not complete until we have received the Confirmation Page and  Re-Enrollment fee!  If you have any questions  concerning your User ID or Password, please contact Patti Rickman at  336-884-3333 ext. 242 or email at prickman@wesed.org. Re-enrollment will continue until the end of this week, Friday,  January 17, 2014.  After that time, the fee will increase from $125  to $200, and we will begin reviewing applications for the 2014-15 school  year.  Thank you for your promptness in getting this process completed!

The Week of November 11 - November 16 - 2013

 

 All School 

  • Thanks to all who volunteered and donated coats for the Reaching Out to Macedonia service project on Saturday. We had over 100 volunteers, gave away more than 350 coats, and cleaned up a 5-6 block radius around the community center.
  • Today, November 11, is PTO Family Night Out at Barberitos and Jumoka Bakery in High Point.  (see PTO section below for further details).
  • Wednesday, November 13, The Wesleyan Red Cross Blood Drive will be held from 1-6pm in the Farlow-Kennedy Center. If you would like to make an appointment to give blood, please contact high school teacher, Shirley Ludemann (sludemann@wesed.org).  Walk-ins are also welcome. You must bring a photo ID to give blood.
  • Saturday, November 16, Robert Fulghum's All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten will be presented by the WCA drama classes in the auditorium at 7pm. Admissions is free; however, donations will be accepted for the American Red Cross to help victims of the recent typhoon in the Philippines.

  • Friday, November 8 - Join us for three exciting and fun games of basketball. At 4:15 p.m., the senior girls and cheerleaders will play the varsity girls basketball team; seniors will play the faculty at 5:30 p.m.; and alumni will play the boys varsity basketball team at 7:00 p.m. There will be a free hot dog dinner stating at 6 p.m.
