Fine Arts Director Welcome

Welcome to Wesleyan Christian Academy and the Department of Fine Arts.  At Wesleyan, we are pleased to offer our students the opportunity to develop and use their unique gifts and talents in performing and visual arts.  We have a comprehensive program in instrumental and vocal music, drama, dance, and the visual arts.  Our staff is highly trained and is dedicated to developing the skills of each child to maintain excellence in the Fine Arts program.  We are reminded of the importance God places on the arts when He commands us to use our talents skillfully for His glory.   In July of 2005, Mr. Joe Hilliard was called to Wesleyan Christian Academy as Director of Fine Arts after a long, successful career in church music.  Under his leadership, the Fine Arts program has hired 3 additional staff members and has grown by 105% in the past four years.

Three years ago a private Teaching Studio, under the direction of Dr. Michael Jarrett, was established to provide private instruction in instrumental and vocal music.  The Studio now employs 22 part-time professional teachers and provides 200 plus private lessons per week (school and community).

In the spring of 2008, the school completed a $1,500,000 renovation of the former First Wesleyan Church building to provide state-of-the-art facilities for the performing arts department.  The present facility includes a 700+ seat theatre with multi media capabilities, band room, choir room, drama room, dance studio, and 6 private teaching studio/practice rooms.

New in Fall of 2009, the performing arts department introduced a dance studio in partnership with High Point Ballet School of Dance.  The studio provides instruction in ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance.  Wesleyan is the only school in the state, public or private, collaborating with a major ballet company to provide private, college preparatory lessons for its students.

It is the desire of the Wesleyan performing and visual arts program to bring glory to God through the skillful use of the gifts and talents of its students.  We have adopted Soli Deo Gloria—To God Alone Be The Glory as the purpose for our program.

We trust, as you consider Wesleyan Christian Academy for your school of choice, that you will also consider participating in the performing and/or visual arts program.  It would be our pleasure to have you join other like-minded students, who desire to pursue excellence in their unique talent for the glory of God.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Joe Hilliard
Director of Fine Arts
